Seriously?!

This happened Friday, September 19...I'm just a little late blogging...

So today I worked in Cleveland (40 minutes from home), but I got off early (3:45!!!!) so I was super excited about getting home to get a few things done before mine and Josh's weekly Friday night date night. Well, at about mile marker 13 (my exit is 4) the interstate comes to a dead standstill. I was hoping it would roll so I could make it to exit 11 b/c there's a way I can get home from there. Not so much. So I'm listening to the radio trying to figure out what the heck is going on. They announced that there was a wreck in the left lane, but all other lanes were open. I thought to myself, "that can't be it...the interstate wouldn't stop for that." Then I heard the truth (and by this time it's already 4:40 and I'm getting ticked off). Apparently Dick Cheney had been in town to kick off the anniversary celebration of the Battle of Chickamauga. While that is incredibly admirable since his grandfather fought in that battle, it was not so admirable that he decided to make his way back to the airport in Chattanooga at rush hour...so they shut down I-24, I-75, Hwy 153 and I-27 (yes that would be every major thru route in Chattanooga) for him to come through AT RUSH HOUR ON A FRIDAY!!!! I don't know who thought that was a good idea, but there were a lot of ticked off taxpayers. I would gladly have given my tax dollars at that point to get his a helicopter and fly him to the airport so he didn't shut down traffic. Seriously?!?!?!

*I didn't make it to exit 11, but I followed about 20 other cars that exited right through grass and a ditch to get to a side road around mile marker 12. :) I was impressed the Camry didn't get stuck! And I was impressed I found my way home from there...all in all it took me 90 minutes to get home...and I was still really ticked! (But my dinner at Cracker Barrel and trip to Barnes and Noble later that night made it all better...then the Vols lost on Saturday, but whatever. My blood will run orange no matter the W-L record!)

I can relate. Traffic is regularly, even during rush hour, halted here due to motorcade movements. It always makes me want to scream.
