Another child of God called home

On Sunday our family bid goodbye to another precious soul as God welcomed her home. Connie Overholt (Pam’s [my step-mom] sister) passed away so suddenly that no one really had time to say good-bye. She was always so welcoming and loving, and she definitely lived life to the fullest! Here are a few of my memories of her…

*When my dad turned 50, Pam and I threw him a HUGE surprise party. Connie, being the practical joker she was, left a walker in front of my dad’s garage door a few days before the party. It had a bicycle horn, rear view mirror and banner that said “Over the Hill” on it. It almost drove my dad crazy trying to guess who left it, and he never did! Connie finally fessed up on the day of his party. I don’t know how he didn’t guess her because she was giggling all week long!

*While I was at Maryville College, Connie was working in an office in Anderson Hall. (This was a few years before dad and Pam were even dating) Every time I had class in there, she always made sure I was doing okay and was taken care of. I looked forward to going to class in Anderson because I knew she would always be there to say hi!

*Shortly after a really rough time for my dad (sometime in 2002 or 2003), I was eating dinner at his house with several other family members when Connie called. She asked for my dad, so I handed him the phone. He almost choked on his dinner, and his face turned bright red when he was talking to her. Later that night (after everybody else was gone) he told me that she said, “I want you to meet my sister. I think you two would be great together!” He, of course, stammered a reply because our ENTIRE family was within earshot. Haha! Daddy and Pam have been married for almost 4 years now, thanks to Connie’s matchmaking skills!

Connie, you were such a precious, special person. We will never forget your loving ways and all your crazy practical jokes!

If you are reading this and have any memories of Connie, please leave them in my “comments” section…I’ll pass them along to her family. I know they will appreciate anything you have to share! Please keep her family in your prayers.
