We had to opportunity to travel to Bar Harbor, Maine for vacation this year. We had a great time! The weather was generally awesome (65-73 degrees each day...that sure beats 95 degrees here in Tennessee!), even though it rained 2 days we were there. Here's day 1 (June 11, 2009) in pics...

And this so totally applies to someone we will not be naming here today. ;)

The place where we ate our first lobstah lunch...Lobster roll and clam chowda...yummy!

We drove part way around Acadia our first afternoon while we had some time to kill

Frenchman's Bay

Cute little stream with Cadillac Mountain in the background (well, one side of it anyway)

Lupine flowers...they were EVERYWHERE and so pretty!

There is actually a beach (the *only* beach) in Acadia called Sand Beach. The water was 50 degrees...that's about the same temperature as an ice bath...you know, like when you sprain your ankle. We both put our feet in the water (for about 2 seconds) so we could say we had been to the beach and in the ocean this summer! :)

The water was so cold that my legs HURT really bad even though I was standing in 1 inch of water. It took me forever to warm my feet up!

I had to be very careful what pictures I took at the beach because there was a 3 year old kid who was completely naked playing on the beach and in the water. Yes, I said in the 50 degree water...up to his little chest...and he was having the time of his life! I was convinced he was going to get hypothermia, but his parents weren't too concerned.

Thunder Hole is a touristy kind of place, but it's really cool! There's a sort of cavern in the rocks, and when the tide is coming in it produces massive waves and spray. It is SO loud, just like thunder! Basically what happens is that as the tide comes in, it traps air back in the cavern, and the pressure from the tide coming in forces the air out in a big explosion. It was very cool to watch, but we were both too chicken to get close enough to get really good pictures (because we would have gotten soaked!)

We ate at Rosalie's pizza for dinner our first night, but I forgot to get any pics. It was amazingly good pizza!
I should say that I am so glad my friend Jessie left me a facebook message when she found out where we were going on vacation. She's been to Bar Harbor every year since she was born, and she pointed out a lot of the great places to eat and fun places to go. Thanks Jessie!
And there you have it for day 1! Day 2 to come tomorrow...
