This morning we decided to hike a little bit around Acadia. I really wanted to go rock climbing, but I couldn't find anyone dedicated enough to go with me. :) The first trail we hiked was the Great Head Trail. The trail head was at Sand Beach, and we had to jump some rocks over a little tide pool to get to it. Since I'm not a super star like my husband, I slipped on the rocks (but I did NOT fall in the water) and Josh caught it all on video. If it ever shows up anywhere I'm going to beat him down.
This first pic is from a random spot in the middle of the trail
Aw! They're in love! (This is my Daddy and Pam

Josh and I looking hot in our PJ pants and baggy t-shirts. :)

These little flowers were all along the trail. It reminded me so much of a dogwood, and I had to take a picture of it! (Maybe there is such thing as a dogwood flower?)

Every now and then planks like these were installed where people had trampled plants or something along the trail.

At the top of the trail...154 feet above sea level. The trail literally ended at a huge cliff over the ocean.

It was unbelievably serene up here

Aw!

Mr. "I'm afraid of heights" venturing toward the edge of the cliff

So pretty!

There were 3 of these seals at the top of the mountain. You can't see it very well, but the date is 1934. Crazy!

"Don't worry honey, I can handle it."

I got in a little bit of *baby* rock climbing after all. We had to scale a granite facing to get to this part in the trail on the way back down.

The view of Sand Beach on the way back down

This is called "The Beehive." If you blow up the picture you can see two white shirts on the left side of the mountain. Everybody but me agreed they wouldn't be caught dead up there.

Our next hike was to Bubble Rock...this is what the first part of the trail looked like

Bubble Rock...It's perched high atop a cliff with absolutely nothing except nature holding it in place. Apparently it's been there for a really long time (seeing as how they cut a hiking trail to it and everything). :)

I know this picture is a little gross, so sorry. I got bit by an infamous black fly. It didn't really hurt, but it sure did itch for about 2 weeks!

A real lobster fisherman on his boat!

The lighthouse at Bass Harbor is the only working lighthouse on the mainland. A US Coast Guard family lives here year round. Living at a tourist attraction? No thanks!

Pretty sailboat from the lighthouse

Yes, I climbed way down on these rocks to take a picture of the lighthouse

We had dinner with Daddy and Pam at Geddy's...it was quite tasty!

There you have it for Day 3! Day 4 to come tomorrow...
