Everyone looks at me funny...

Every time the national anthem is played, I get tons of funny looks. I can't hear the song without crying like a baby. I guess I never really thought about what a sacrifice our military makes until after my Grandaddy died, but now that song makes me think of him and everyone else I know who has or is currently serving our country. My Granddaddy never wanted to brag about what he had done throughout his life. I suppose that's why I never realized until after his death what an impact he had during WWII. There is an entire book written about his army troop. They invaded several concentration camps in Germany at the end of the war. What an awesome story! But he never wanted to tell it because he thought of it as bragging. I even found out that along side his gun from the army, he had kept a gun that he had taken off a Nazi soldier during one of those invasions. I wish I had heard about all this before he passed away. I would love to have heard those stories from him! "Oh say does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave, o'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave." I seriously cry like a baby thinking about what my Granddaddy and thousands of others have done for my country.

I have also done the same since my grandfather passed away 3 1/2 years ago. I immediately think of his and other's sacrifices whenever I hear that song.
