Update on Sharon
I have been negligent in writing to update on Sharon's condition, and I apologize for that. Here is what has transpired since my last update...Sharon was accepted by TennCare (apparently, they have to accept you once you are diagnosed with a terminal illness...what a blessing in this case!) In early December she was started on a new treatment drug that has shown major promise for a lot of patients. We were really excited that this could mean good things. Unfortunately, I got a call last week from Sharon. She was in Park West Hospital in Knoxville. She told me she had been there for a week. The tumors were starting to grow uncontrollably, and she was having enormous amounts of pain. At one point she was barely lucid because her pain was so bad. When I talked to her it was very clear that she had a large amount of pain meds in her system. She told me that the new drug had not helped her at all. They had tried initiating chemo while she was in the hospital, but her body was unable to tolerate the drug. They are going to try radiation, and they have hope that will help shrink some of the tumors and give her some relief. The doctors are now saying 6 months at the most. No matter what, Sharon continues to remind me that "We've won. No matter the outcome, we won." She is so right. If only we all can see that. Even when life really sucks, if you're truly a child of God you always win in the end. I'm struggling with that right now as we're looking for a house and a church home here in Chattanooga. It's easy to get discouraged, but I keep telling myself that God has led us to this place in our lives. How selfish and silly of me to think He wouldn't see it all the way through. No matter where my journey takes me, I cling to the fact that I know who wins in the end. (And if I ever seem to have forgotten that when you talk to me, please give me a gentle reminder. ;)
