Porn in the nursing home...

If you're disturbed by the title of this post, just know that I was very disturbed by the conversation that preceded it. For the past few weeks, I've been working at a nursing home. For some reason, when we were eating lunch yesterday (we were EATING for crying out loud!) the aforementioned topic somehow came to be the lunch time discussion. Apparently, if our residents wish to view obscene material, whether it be video tapes, magazines, etc., the nursing home must provide privacy for them to do so. They also must provide privacy if patients wish to have conjugal visits from a spouse outside of or within the nursing home. This is not limited only to our facility, it applies to all of them! As long as patients have an appropriate cognitive status, they are free to make those decisions as an adult. I suppose it makes sense that these things would be allowed, but that thought has NEVER entered my head about any nursing home until yesterday. Consider my eyes opened. Now, doesn't that make you feel a little differently about going to a nursing home someday? :)
