Enterprise, Consider yourself exposed

So, as I've said before, my car is currently in the shop. Seeing as how I couldn't drive all last week, that was no big deal, but Josh and I decided that it would be best to get me a rental car from now until the job is done since I'm back at work. So, this morning I called my insurance adjustor and she told me that she would set it all up with the Enterprise office near my work, and they would get the car to me by that afternoon. Fabulous. But that was way too easy. Since I still hadn't heard from them by 3:00, I decided to call the adjustor again. She was annoyed they hadn't called me, but gave me their info so I could follow up. (For the record, she did her job immediately after I called that morning...apparently they're just slow at Enterprise.) I called, and the guy who answers says, "when will you be needing this car?" Uh? Today? I'm stuck at work and have no way home until I get my car. "Okay ma'am. We can come pick you up...what time will work? We're open until 6:00." 4:45 I say. "No problem. We'll give you a call when we're on our way."

Thinking that's all said and done, I go on about my day and really bust it with paperwork trying to get out of there on time. 4:45 comes and goes without a phone call. At 5:00 I call and say, "Um, someone was supposed to pick me up at 4:45 and I haven't heard from anybody. I was just wondering what's going on?"
"Well, our driver isn't back from his last delivery yet, so he hasn't left to come pick you up."
"Seriously? No one has even left to come over here yet? So what's the whole "we'll pick you up at 4:45 thing?" Just a rough estimate? Give or take an hour or two?"
"Ma'am, he should be back in 15 minutes, then he'll be on the way to get you."
"Why don't you just give me your address, since one of my co-workers graciously volunteered to take me to your office."
So he gives me the address and that was the end of it. He never did apologize over the phone. So, my friend Suzie was fabulous and took me to Enterprise to pick up the car. She refused to leave me there alone because she was convinced they wouldn't have a car for me and I'd be stranded. Well, they did have a car. They offered me a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I told them that I wouldn't be driving that unless they also wanted to pay a gas stipend. I was supposed to get a sedan with good gas mileage. The guy looked really annoyed, but fortunately his nice co-worker stepped in and offered me a Mazda 6 that was being cleaned up. He said I'd have to wait a few minutes, but it got good mileage. Fine, I'll wait. Meanwhile, his idiot co-worker still is staring at me and not apologizing for the whole situation. I got the car, so I'm driving again, but for the record, Enterprise DOES NOT pick you up when you need them. It's a total advertising gimmick...and when they don't do as promised, they don't even apologize for it. I don't think that's very good business practice, for the record.

Hmm a friend of mine just had a problem with this too... do you mind if I link to your blog?! Enterprise REALLY needs to think about who they're screwing... the internet is a powerful, powerful place!

my insurance provided me with a car through enterprise when i had my wreck back in march. my gripes are different, however. i got a small, gas efficient chevy cobalt. however, the interior was dirty and it smelled like smoke. gross. i had it for a month and returned it in a cleaner state than it was in when i received it.

so when i went to return the car, they gave me some run-around about the payment. my insurance would cover $20 per day, but the car cost an additional $6-something a day that i'd have to pay out of pocket...i was already aware of this, so no biggie. however, they apparently couldn't settle it right then or even at that branch. after giving me some attitude, the rep put me on the phone with another rep at the location where i originally picked up the car, and they told me they had to work out the bill with my insurance, but they'd be in touch to deal with my part of the balance. i kept emphasizing that i DID NOT want to pay with the credit card i'd given them when i picked up my car, i wanted to pay with my debit. apparently they made a note on my record, but the guy also assured me that they'd NEVER automatically charge my card without confirming with me first, and again assured me they'd be in touch in a few days. satisfied with that, i went about my merry little way, half-forgetting about it all. and you guessed it...when i got my credit card bill, there was the charge from enterprise. yeah, they kinda suck.
