The kids next door

I can't remember if I've posted about the boys next door yet, but I'm sure you'll be hearing quite a few stories about them. They are 5 and 7, and for the sake of their privacy I'll call them Andy and Jon. They LOVE our dogs, and always want to come over and play. There have been several incidences when they ring the doorbell at 11:00 pm or later. (They tell me that they never go to bed before midnight and sleep in late every morning...they're home schooled, so I guess they can get by with that...to each their own.) I have made them cry several times when I sternly had to remind them that it's rude to come over after the sun goes down (and that they really should ask their mom before they come over here). However, I was the first to buy their boy scout popcorn, so I feel like that redeemed me. :) They are two precious, well-behaved boys, but sometimes the things they say make me shake my head.

Josh was working from home today, and he was outside making phone calls (because it's loud in the house with all the work going on). Of course the dogs were with him out there. The boys came home from somewhere, saw Josh outside and immediately ran over here.

Boys: Can we play with the dogs?!
Josh: Ask your dad. If it's okay with him, it's okay with me too.
Boys: Okay

They run away and quickly come back...

Boys: He said it's okay! (so they play with the dogs in the yard for a little while...then Jon drops the bombshell...)

Jon: How do you know that Lucy's a girl?

*Pregnant pause from Josh*

Josh: Um...the doctor told me she was.

Jon: Oh, okay.

Hahahahahaha! Fortunately that answer satisfied him. I would have loved to see Josh's face during this exchange. Just thought I'd share this story because it made me laugh!
